What to Pack When Paddling Our WaterWays

August 21, 2015 by Callie Wamsley

Living the outdoors lifestyle is a must for WaterWays families. Whether you're joining our community from the Aloha State of Hawaii or making a short move from Atlanta, we want all of our residents to fully enjoy all that WaterWays has to offer, especially the water.

One of our favorite water activities is kayaking. We love it so much that we created our own kayak storage and launch site, the Hawk Island Boat House, to create convenient access to and from the water for our residents. We also want to ensure our residents are properly prepared for a few hours on the water. Here are a few tips on what to pack when paddling our waterways:

  • Hat: For added protection from the sun, be sure to pack a hat to cover your face and ears from potentially harmful rays.
  • Sunscreen: Like any outdoor activity, proper UV protection is extremely important. Be sure to reapply approximately every two hours and immediately after swimming.
  • Water: It's extremely hot during the summer. Be sure to stay hydrated by bringing along a canteen or bottled water to last the duration of your trip.
  • Water shoes: Many times, exploring takes you into uncharted territory. Some terrain including, logs, rocks and shells are easier to conquer with a pair of shoes.
