"We're creating something very special here".

April 25, 2014 by Callie Wamsley

At event in early April 2014, WaterWays Township was awarded 2013 Community of the Year. WaterWays was honored with this award for not only its quality residential homes and home sites, but also for its respect and preservation of the land's natural attributes.

From TPC Sawgrass and The Lodge & Club at Ponte Vedra Beach to Marsh Landing, Palencia and Seranata Beach Club, WaterWays Township developer Fletcher Management has created numerous lifestyle communities that leave indelible impressions on residents and guests alike.

WaterWays TownshipWith this history of defining places, Paul Fletcher's vision for WaterWays has embraced a commitment to enhance the original site with an impressive collection of livable residential neighborhoods and active amenities while dynamically protecting and preserving the land's unsurpassed natural attributes. Fletcher, noted for his environmentally sensitive approach to development, was noted for being "green" long before the term became so widely recognized and accepted.

The Fletcher team wanted to provide a rich and active lifestyle at WaterWays that has, as its very foundation, access to the natural beauty of existing coastal vegetation as well as the various waterways that crisscross the land. Because of that initiative, residents are encouraged to explore all aspects of the community. "Whether it's spending the afternoon hiking along the Cottonham Nature Trail or kayaking down the beautiful three-and-a-half-mile long Grand Lagoon, WaterWays has something to offer everyone," said Fletcher.

Due to its location near the Ogeechee River channel and featuring over six-and-a-half miles of marsh frontage, WaterWays celebrates the influence of water as an essential element of life in their community. Residents can enjoy access to the Georgia Barrier Islands after a short boat ride down Redbird Creek or they can reel in the day's big catch from Grand Lagoon that's designed, stocked, and endorsed by TV personality and professional bass fishing expert, Bill Dance. Grand Lagoon is an inspiring water trail that provides an ideal setting for casual afternoons of canoeing and kayaking.

WaterWays TownshipRich in stunning nature and intriguing history, WaterWays features over a thousand acres of ancient oak hammocks and lush greenways to explore, including the site of the historic Cottenham Plantation formerly owned by Henry Ford. In addition, Fort McAllister, located just north of WaterWays Township, offers a glimpse back in time at a chapter from the civil war era and its role in shaping the history of Savannah.

"Being recognized by the Homebuilders Association as ‘Community of the Year' is very exciting for our development team," said Vance Askew – marketing director, WaterWays Township. "We're creating something very special here, and it's obvious from the moment you pass through our gates".
