Saying Yes Mam, No Sir, holding doors open, taking off your hat indoors and baking home goods for neighbors are all typical examples of southern hospitality. As time goes on, some of these traditions have faded into the past, but it is clear that at [WaterWays](http://waterwaystownship.com), southern hospitality is still very much alive. As our community continues to grow and more families find their new home at WaterWays, the number of newcomers to the neighborhood is on the rise. With all walks of life and hectic schedules it can be difficult to meet and welcome your neighbors. Tari Rangel, a WaterWays newest resident wanted to meet and mingle with her new neighbors. A passionate baker and connoisseur in the kitchen, sharing delicious homemade treats with her neighbors was the perfect way to introduce herself. Known for her Strawberry Pie, Tari got out her rolling pin, sugar and flour and started kneading away. Tari delivered Strawberry Pies to each of her neighbors and instantly became known as WaterWays' very own Julia Childs! So, for all of you strawberry fans who happen to have a sweet tooth, check out Tari's pie recipe below—it's one of her husband's favorites! **Super Flaky Pie Crust** 4C All Purpose Flour 1 ¾ C Butter Flavor Shortening 3 Tbsp White Sugar 2 tsp Salt 1 egg ½ C Water 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, shortening, sugar, and salt. Blend together with a pastry cutter until crumbly. 2. In a small bowl, mix egg with water. Blend into flour mixture. Chill in refrigerator until ready to use.   **Strawberry Pie** 1 C Sugar ½ C Flour 2 Tbsp Corn Starch Dash of Nutmeg Dash of Cinnamon ¼ tsp Almond extract ¼ tsp Vanilla extract 2 Pints Strawberries 1 Recipe for double pie crust 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees 2. In a large bowl mix the flour sugar, corn starch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Slice the strawberries and add to the dry ingredients. Toss to coat the strawberries. Add almond and vanilla extracts and stir to ensure even distribution. Let stand for 30 minutes. 3. Pour filling into pie crust and top with a lattice crust. Sprinkle the top of the lattice work with a light dusting of sugar. 4. Cover the edges of the crust with foil or a crust shield and let bake at 425 for 15 minutes. 5. Reduce temperature to 375 remove crust shield and let bake for an additional 45 minutes. If the crust begins to brown put shield back on to ensure the crust does not get too dark. 6. Once cook time is complete, shut off the oven but leave the pie in the oven with the door closed for 30 minutes while the oven cools. 7.
