It's no secret that Richmond Hill has one of the richest Civil War histories in the United States. At Fort McAllister, Gen. William T. Sherman ended his infamous March to the Sea, ultimately leading him to a victory and overtaking Savannah.
At WaterWays, we are proud of the influence that the Civil War has had on the Richmond Hill and Savannah areas, and this weekend, Fort McAllister State Park is giving you an opportunity to learn that rich history in a whole new light – candlelight.
Experience Fort McAllister through a candlelit tour as museum guides walk you through the best preserved earthwork fort of the Confederacy, nestled among giant live oaks, Spanish moss and salt marsh. During the tour, you'll learn all about the infamous battle and will peek intimately into the 150-year-old grounds with barracks, cannons, palisades and more.
