Score Big This Season With the Best Tailgate

September 24, 2012 by Callie Wamsley

Saturday was the first day of fall and for many of us in the south, fall means football season! Watching college and pro football on the weekends has become more than just an afternoon in front of the television. Enthusiastic fans engage in game day even if they can't make it to the game or if their favorite team is not playing by planning a tailgate party.

Tailgating in the lowcountry is a great way to visit with friends and family and spend your weekends outside cheering on your favorite team. Whether you are set-up outside the stadium or in your very own backyard, planning the perfect family-friendly tailgate, lowcountry style, takes time and work!

Here are some tips that will help you score the best tailgate:

  • Take into account how many people you are expecting and how much food and beverage you will need. If you are expecting a crowd, research easy recipes that will save money and time.
  • Channel your inner Paula Dean and cook up finger foods and buffalo dips that you know all your friends will love! Check out some of our favorite recipes here.
  • Make sure to set up folding lawn chairs and a tent in a shaded area and maybe even a portable fan to cool off in that southern heat. The WaterClub West Swim Pavilion with a junior sized Olympic Swimming Pool, catering kitchen and screened pavilion is the perfect place to spend the day and watch the game with good friends and good food!
  • Remember the refreshments— especially water to keep hydrated!
  • And if you don't have plans to go to the game, a portable and battery operated radio and or television is perfect.

Get your game face on and plan the perfect football tailgate this fall at Waterways Township!
