Patriotic and Prepared to Celebrate the 4th of July

July 03, 2012 by Callie Wamsley

We all look forward to the Fourth of July, celebrating with friends and family at the pool, beach, lake or even a community park. Regardless of where we are celebrating, we sport our red, white and blue and soak up some summer sun until the firework show closes out the night. As you prepare for a mini vacation and 4th of July celebration, schedules can become overwhelming and hectic, making it easy to forget some of the necessities for a fabulous Fourth.

Make sure you have everything you need with our Fourth of July Celebration Checklist:

Stay Cool, Stay Hydrated: Make sure to bring a cooler packed with plenty of ice, cases of water and your favorite foods. With little or no coastal breeze, battery operated misting fans  or a dip in the water is a great way to stay cool. With record setting temperatures, dehydration and overheating can be your biggest enemy, so be sure to take every precaution.

Picnics, Cookouts and Fun: Spending the day outdoors celebrating the Fourth and waiting for the evening firework show, many families will feast on their summer picnic and grill favorites. Because it is never the food that is forgotten here is a list of things to remember that will make your meals more enjoyable.

  • Batteries
  • Bottle opener
  • Bug spray
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlights
  • Folding table and table cloth
  • Games
  • Hats
  • Lawn chairs and/or a blanket
  • Matches and/or lighter fluid for the grill
  • Music player
  • Napkins and plates
  • Plastic utensils and cups
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Toilet Paper

Clean-Up, Everybody Do Your Share: At the end of the night, it can be difficult to make sure that all of your stuff has been cleaned up and put away. With crowds of people rushing to beat the traffic after the fireworks, making multiple trips to the trash can be a difficult and time consuming task. Don't forget a trash bag, cleaning wipes for lawn chairs and coolers, a bag for recycling and aluminum foil or tuber ware for leftovers for a fast and easy clean-up.

Use our list and make sure you are prepared with everything you need for a safe, fun and patriotic 4th of July! Let us know how you celebrated the 4th and share photos on our Facebook page!

God bless America!
