New Year's Resolutions – Homeowner's Edition

January 08, 2015 by Callie Wamsley

Exercise daily, cut back on sweets, watch less television - whatever your New Year's resolutions may be, many times it's hard to keep them.

We may not be able to keep your hand out of the cookie jar, but we can help you make 2015 the best year for your home. Here are a few tips:

  • Cut back – Turning off the lights and television when no one is in the room may seem like a simple fix, but often times, people do not think twice about an extra light or the television background noise. Shut it off when no one's around – your electric bill will thank you!
  • Upgrade annually – A simple way to manage the cost of home improvements is to set aside a yearly budget. Include an area for wants, needs and emergencies to help prioritize your spending. This practice helps you to keep an eye on the condition of your home while also empowering you to add on or upgrade.
  • Educate yourself – Learn the ins and outs of your home insurance policy, ensure your maintenance elements are kept in check, and improve your insurance score.
  • Stay organized – Start the year off right with a clean, organized home. This is a perfect time to teach your children about giving back to the community by donating their untouched clothes and toys to a charitable organization.
  • Enjoy yourself – Set aside quality time to spend at home with your family. Schedule family cooking nights, game nights or movie nights together in the comfort of your own home.

Start fresh in 2015 by following these tips and you'll see a difference in no time! Share your own New Year's resolutions on the WaterWays Facebook page!
