National Homeownership Month

June 06, 2014 by Callie Wamsley

Owning a home is at the very core of the American dream, and to celebrate that dream, we recognize June as National Homeownership Month. The American dream hinges on economic awareness, independence and
responsibility, all of which are embodied in owning your own home. Home ownership builds wealth and provides tax benefits, but there's more to it than that. Your home is where you create memories that will last a lifetime.
It's where you'll enjoy mornings with breakfast in bed and evenings with neighbors and friends for a backyard barbecue.national homeowners month

In addition to all the memories and good times that are had at your home, there are other benefits to being a homeowner. Here are a few more reasons why owning a home is so great:

  • It provides stability for you and your family. The average homeowner stays in their house for 12 years, whereas renters typically leave their home every three years.
  • As a homeowner, you are setting an excellent example for your children. According to the Boehem & Schlottman study from the University of Tennessee, children of homeowners are 59 percent more likely to own a home and 116 percent more likely to graduate from college.
  • The tax benefits from owning a home are tremendous. The average homeowner receives 12 percent in tax savings a month by making payments on their own home.

At WaterWays Township, residents reap all the benefits of homeownership on the beautiful Georgia Coast, including a close-knit culture, set in a natural environment and a unique coastal experience that can only be found at WaterWays Township.
