Memorial Day on the Georgia Coast

May 20, 2015 by Callie Wamsley

Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of summer. Whether you're hitting the road for a family vacation or staying close to home, you can celebrate everyone's favorite three-day weekend with family-friendly activities on the Georgia Coast.

  • Art Show – Kick off your weekend at the Tybee Arts Association Memorial Day Art Show. Browse the booths of 18 local artists who will showcase driftwood sculptures, handcrafted furniture, paintings, photography and more.
  • Memorial Day Commemoration – Remember the men and women who bravely served our country at the Memorial Day Commemoration at Fort McAllister State Park. Pay tribute to military service members with cannon and musket firings and civil war demonstrations.
  • The Savannah Mile Run- Enjoy a one-mile run through downtown Savannah. This run attracts all levels of runners, including a family division. All proceeds benefit the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire.
  • Market at the Lighthouse- The Tybee lighthouse is a fun way to spend your Saturday morning. Enjoy handcrafted trinkets made by local artists, candles, gourmet foods, jewelry and more. The event includes music and a chance to design your own piece of artwork.
