August 30, 2013 by Callie Wamsley

Although summer is winding down, there's still time to soak up the sun with family, friends and neighbors. What better place to spend your Labor Day than on the beautiful shores of the Georgia coast?

Here are some ideas:

Get a history lesson at the Fort McAllister Labor Day Festival! Located just South of Savannah along the banks of the Ogeechee River, this beautiful area is one of the South's most well-preserved Confederate forts. This family-friendly festival is full of food, games, live music and more. Visitors can explore interesting relics such as cannons, palisades, bunkers or even tour the Civil War museum. They're so much to learn at Fort McAllister!

Catch One Last Wave Not a fan of the lake or beach? We have the perfect solution! Take a trip over to the Summer Waves Water Park on Jekyll Island and enjoy your day barreling around in the Frantic Atlantic Wave Pool, lounging around in Turtle Creek Lazy River, or zipping through Nature's Revenge water slide. Whether you want to be thrilled or "chilled", Summer Waves Water Park has everything to meet your needs!

Cruise your own "WaterWays" There's no place like home! Besides, why leave when you have access to some of the state's most gorgeous waters in your own back yard? You could mingle with your neighbors at WaterClub West, paddle around the Grand Lagoon or reel ‘em in at the Bill Dance Signature Lake! The possibilities are endless!

No matter what you decide to do, a day on the water is always better when spent with your favorite people! Share your photos with us on Facebook!
