Hook the Big One at the 23rd Annual Fishing Derby

May 31, 2013 by Callie Wamsley

This Saturday, The Richmond Hill Exchange Club will hold their 23rd Annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to Noon, at the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery on GA Highway 144. This is a great way to encourage kids to get outside and enjoy the sport of fishing. Whether they grew up fishing or this is their first time, the Annual Kids Fishing Derby is sure to excite experienced fishers and hook new ones.

Over the past 22 years, thousands of children and their families have participated in this event, with more than 325 children participating in 2012. This year the derby will take place at three fish hatchery ponds that have been stocked with catfish and bream. Spend the morning baiting your hook, casting your line and sharing your fishing tips and tricks with family and friends, all the while trying your best to hook the big one! Trophies for the largest single fish, and most total pounds of fish will be awarded immediately following the derby, for two age groups--ages six and under, and ages seven to 12. A $50 gift card will also awarded to the child who caught the most total pounds of fish. But most exciting is that the derby winners and their families will be invited to enjoy a four- hour bass fishing excursion at WaterWays in our Bill Dance Signature Bass Lake.

So, if you are looking for something fun to do tomorrow morning, head down to the fishing derby! All you need is a fishing pole and some bait!

Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles and bait, although a good supply of free bait and fishing poles will be available at no charge. For more information visit, http://rhxc.org/fishing.htm
