The freedoms that we enjoy every day come from big sacrifice by others. As proud Americans it is important that we show our support and appreciation for the men and women who serve our country and are our "American Heroes." Most veterans face challenges as they transition back into civilian life, and today's wounded warriors are battling extraordinary obstacles including the physical injuries as well as invisible ones, like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
This Saturday, we are hosting "Heroes on the Water," a national organization that provides wounded warriors opportunities to relax, rehabilitate, and reintegrate through kayak fishing and the outdoors. Inspired by this collection of veterans and volunteers who organize these special events, we are honored to host a group of veterans for a day out on the water, kayaking through our lagoons and fishing for bragging rights in our Bill Dance Signature Lake.
We are excited and grateful to be able to be a part of a "Heroes on the Water" event and are looking forward to having them here at WaterWays. Jim Dolan, Heroes on the Water National President said it best when he said:
"Kayak fishing is therapeutic for anyone, but particularly for military personnel recovering from injuries and trauma. Our mission is to give these heroes a chance to enjoy a challenging outdoor sport that allows them to decompress from the stresses related to combat and from the physical and mental rigors of rehabilitation, and to join the kayak fishing band of brothers."
We couldn't agree more!
