Georgia Coastal Destinations

July 18, 2014 by Callie Wamsley

We're fortunate here at WaterWays Township to be located in the beautiful, historic town of Richmond Hill, so deeply rooted in our great state's history. Outside of Richmond Hill, the Georgia coast is dotted with well-known cities and hidden gems that entice tourists from across the country to immerse themselves in the profound coastal culture that can only be found in South Georgia.

Our convenient location gives residents the opportunity to explore all that the salt life has to offer without the hassle of an extensive road trip. Check out these hot spots that have made the Georgia coast an appealing destination for both intrastate and out of state travelers.

Brunswick, Georgia

o  Widely known as the "Gateway to Georgia's Golde Isles", Historic Brunswick boasts the culture of a city by the sea with a southern charm that you won't find anywhere else. In the beautiful downtown area you will find unique shops, cafes and galleries. You'll also discover a wide variety of fine cuisine that is sure to satisfy any craving. Don't forget to try what has become a staple in barbecue: the town's famous Brunswick stew!

St. Mary's, Georgia

o  St. Mary's remains one of Georgia's best kept secrets. A place rich in history, natural beauty and southern hospitality, St. Mary's is a perfect getaway that provides access to Georgia's largest and southernmost barrier island, Cumberland Island. Historic treasures like the Colonial Coast Birding Trail and the Oak Grove Cemetery are staples that all visitors must see while touring this charming town.

Kingsland, Georgia

o  Selected as Lovetown, USA by Oprah Winfrey, Kingsland is known as the coastal connection to the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge. There are endless opportunities to soak in the relaxing lifestyle in Kingsland. Spend your day fishing and exploring the shores of the Crooked River State Park, then dance the night away to classic tunes at the Woodbrine Opry. However you decide to spend your visit, there is an activity for everyone in Kingsland, Georgia.
