Georgia, a Tax Friendly State For Retirees

August 22, 2014 by Callie Wamsley

Ah, the great state of Georgia! We're fortunate to have a community on the beautiful Georgia coast. The breathtaking views of our coastal landscape, energetic culture and comforts of home around WaterWays Township are commodities that entice families and retirees to relocate from across the southeast to our community.

Retirement is the ultimate reward to a successful career. Much has to be considered when deciding where to spend your best years. Luckily, our great state provides one of the best reasons of all to relocate here: low taxes! According to Kiplinger, Georgia is one of the top ten most tax-friendly states for retirees in the country. Check out how retirees are benefiting from living in the Peach State:

  • Social Security income is tax exempt in the state of Georgia
  • Up to $35,000 of most types of retirement incomes are also tax exempt
  • Statewide sales tax is 4%
  • Full-time residents 65 and older may qualify for additional deductions from property taxes
