Summertime is all about enjoying the sweet sunshine and outdoor activities but with all of the fun  means the beginning of HOT temperatures! The sweltering southern heat may seem like an unbeatable foe, but with these quick tricks, you and your family can win the battle against the rising temperatures!

1. Let your computer take a nap. Your computer gives off lots of heat throughout the day, so if you're away from it for more than 10 minutes, set it to "sleep mode" until you need it again. Not only is it good for your computer, but it can also save energy. At night, shut it down completely so that it isn't radiating heat in the area you left it. Finally, for the sake of your body temperature, try not to sit it on your lap while you use it...that's what tables are for!

2. Skip the drying cycle. Your dishwasher also gives off heat when it is working; making your house much warmer than it needs to be. Wait until it cools down at night to run the dishwasher or let your dishes air dry with the washer door open. Your dishes will be clean and dry by the time your family wakes up!

3. Kick your shoes off. During these hot summer days, your feet can sometimes be what is keeping your body temperature so high! The good news is they can also be what cool you off. When you take your shoes off, the sweat on your feet evaporates, cooling the skin and blood in your feet. That sensation will then travel through to the rest of your body. Plus, now you can really sit back, relax and put your feet up!

4. Stay hydrated. It can't be understated. When you lose fluids to dehydration, your body temperature rises. Those fluids have to be replaced in order to refresh and maintain cool. Avoid drinks with alcohol, caffeine or too much sugar. Try to increase your intake of hydrating foods. A chopped up watermelon with dinner, for example, is sweet, healthy and hydrating!

5. Dive in at WaterClub West! Stay cool at the WaterClub West Swim Pavilion with a float in the junior Olympic pool, or splash yourself with your paddle as you make your way through our lagoons.
