Celebrate Veterans Day and Honor All Who Have Served

November 11th is a day each year that we recognize the dedication, sacrifice and hard work of all who have provided their loyal service to our country, and let our veterans know that we deeply appreciate all they have done and all they will do to keep our country free.

Check out this list of things to do to celebrate this Veterans Day from WTOC:

BRYAN COUNTY

  • Richmond Hill Ceremony, 11 a.m. Nov. 12, with speaker, color guard, firing party, and vehicles from the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team.
  • Veterans Day 5K Run/Walk for Peace -Â 3rd Annual Capt. Matthew Freeman 5K Run/Walk for Peace will take place on Monday, Nov. 12 at 8:30 a.m. J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill. Race day registration begins on site at 7 a.m. No discounts for military or groups available on race day. Registration forms and other event details are listed on www.active.com and www.freemanproject.org

CHATHAM COUNTY

  • JROTC drill competition in Savannah, 8 a.m. Nov. 10.
  • Savannah Veterans Day parade - Parade is Nov. 10. It starts at 10:15 a.m. at Abercorn and Gwinnett St. It will proceed north to Liberty St. East on Liberty to Montogomery St. north on Montgomery to Broughton and east on Broughton to East Broad where it ends. There are 101 total units of which 11 are bands.
  • Chatham County Banquet in Thunderbolt at 7 p.m. Nov. 11, with a speaker from the 3rd CAB.
  • U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston will be speaking at this year's Veterans Day assembly at Blessed Sacrament School. The assembly will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at the school gym. BSS parents are encouraged to attend and help salute family members who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
  • WWII Veteran honored - American Legion Post 322 will be hosting a suprise celebration for WWII veteran Bud Porter on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum. The event is a celebration for Porter's service in WWII. Porter was a B-17 ball turret gunner during the war and currently serves as a volunteer at the museum. The museum is offering discounted admission for veterans and servicemembers on Sunday.
  • Logan's Roadhouse will recognize those who have served or are serving by donating 25 percent of proceeds from Sunday, Nov. 11 sales to programs that support our service men and women.

Many national and local restaurants are offering veterans and active duty military free meals on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12. Check out this list of Veterans Day freebies 2012 from ecoupons.com:

  • California Pizza Kitchen: Free pizza and drink on Nov. 11 and 12.

  • Sizzler: Free Lunch on November 12. Choose from 6 oz. steak, Malibu Chicken, or Half Dozen Fried Shrimp.
  • UNO: Free entree or individual pizza with an entree or pizza of equal or greater value on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12.
