Whether you are staying in to have fun with your family, attending a party with friends and neighbors or  heading into Savannah for a big bash, safety should be of the upmost importance.

Make this New Year's Eve an unforgettable night and ensure that you and your family are safe and sound when the clock strikes midnight by taking the following safety precautions into consideration:

Plan Ahead: Â Having a social life is important to all of us, so you and your children might not be ringing in the New Year at the same place. It is important to have a plan so you can keep track of the entire family. Know where every member of your family is going to celebrate and ask what kind of supervision there will be. Set a curfew and/or a meeting place to ensure that you and your family all get home safe and sound.

Don't Drink and Drive: Whether you are hosting a party or traveling to one it is important to have a safe way to get home. If hosting, offer guests a place to stay overnight or call a taxi or car service ahead of time to request their services for the night. If you are going to a party or event, planning ahead and naming a "designated driver" for your group will not only save time, but could also save lives.

Have a Buddy: Look out for friends and family and stick together at parties and events. Going out to celebrate New Year's Eve can mean a faster paced evening than what most are used to. There is safety in numbers, so traveling in a group is imperative, especially for women, children and young adults.

Taking a few minutes to go over these safety precautions with your family will help them to be prepared and alert for any dangerous situations that may arise and could even save a life. Remember to always be aware of your surroundings, and ring in 2014 in a fun and safe way!
