WaterWays Township Celebrates Fifth Year with the Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival

This year marks the fifth year that WaterWays has participated in the Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival (GOSF).

"For the past 16 years, the GOSF has helped highlight the Georgia coastline's heritage through this tremendous event," said Vance Askew – sales and marketing director, WaterWays Township. "In an effort to support that mission and to share it with our resident families and the local community, we're proud to be back for our fifth year of sponsorship participation in the GOSF."

This year's festival will take place from Friday, Oct. 17 – Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 and is expected to host more than 35,000 attendees. The event will feature a wide variety of local food vendors, 50 arts and crafts booths, a 5K Crab Crawl run, carnival games and rides, and Grammy Award-winning band Blues Traveler as the entertainment headliner.

"The GOSF is certainly the local event of the season," said Askew. "If you want a weekend of family friendly fun, award-winning entertainment and the best seafood available in the area, you don't want to miss this festival. Drop by our booth and say hello!"

The Hawk Island Boat House Launches Big

After much anticipation, the Hawk Island Boat House was officially introduced to the community and we celebrated in a big way! To commemorate the grand occasion, we hosted a kayaking sensation celebration on Saturday, Sept. 27 where our residents were treated to a barbecue lunch and an overview of the new waterfront amenity.

Situated on the edge of Grand Lagoon at Hawk Island, the new Boat House offers:

  • Covered storage for up to 30 single and double passenger kayaks and canoes
  • A sun deck for relaxing while you enjoy the beauty of Hawk Island
  • Two launching berths that provide comfortable access to and from the water

A special portion of the event recognized Susan Hall, avid kayaker, local fishing extraordinaire and the very first resident of WaterWays Township. The WaterWays team dedicated a kayak rack to Susan as an expression of our appreciation for her contributions to the community and to acknowledge her regular presence on the waters of Grand Lagoon.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the opening of the Boat House. We look forward to seeing you there on a regular basis!

WWT staff, Susan Hall
