Welcome Home to the Bass Family

Last fall, Wendy Bass and her husband, Mel, pulled down the arbor drive around the welcome center here at WaterWays Township. When they parked their car, Wendy stepped out into the sunlight and looked towards Mel to say "Did you hear that?"

Nothing. They heard nothing – nothing but the cool coastal air rustling through the tops of the grand oaks and towering pines. That was the moment for the Bass family.

They knew in that peaceful moment that WaterWays Township would be their home. Wendy and her husband grew up in the country and did not want to put down roots in just any neighborhood. This would be the next home for their family including their girls, 10-year-old Kennedy and 15-year-old Mackenzie, so it was important to find a space that would not only prove to be a sound long-term investment but also reflect their personality and family lifestyle both inside and out.

Willing to search all of Savannah and Richmond Hill until they found it, The Bass's were looking for wide open spaces, natural vistas, and a home where they could grow as a family. They were looking for a place that combined both the privacy of country living with the luxuries of a planned community.

One afternoon while driving down Highway 144, they saw a sign for WaterWays Township and made an appointment for a tour.

New Housing Starts Demonstrate Ongoing Community Growth

The City of Richmond Hill was built on education, entrepreneurship, low taxes and a beautiful coastal setting – so the continued economic development, community growth and greater sense of hospitality shared amongst residents are just additional incentives for prospective home buyers looking for a home at WaterWays Township. With so much demand for the community and more families in search of their dream home, WaterWays Township is experiencing another surge in vertical construction with five new construction starts during the month of March in the neighborhoods of Long Creek, RidgeWood Park and WaterWays Parkway South.

With the market continuing to show increasing signs of demand, we've been working with our architects to finalize plans, with the county to pull the building permits and with our builders to get the construction of these homes underway. With each of our neighborhoods seeing new housing starts, we are excited and prepared to welcome prospective home buyers who will be coming to Richmond Hill this spring. The five homes, ranging from 2,142 – 2,860 square feet, will feature four bedrooms, up to three full baths and feature the detailed, low-country architecture for which WaterWays Township is known.

 Racing, Canoeing and Camping – Oh My!

Cooler weather hasn't slowed us down here at WaterWays! We've hosted the first Annual Resolution Runz, the Interact Club at Richmond Hill High School and our local Boy Scout troop camped out at Cottenham Plantation.

It's a beautiful thing to have a place for the local community to romp, relax and learn. From Ossabaw Island Overlook to the Bill Dance Signature Lakes & Grand Lagoon, WaterWays Township has been eager to share its 2,300 acres of coastal Georgia marsh, ancient oaks, and waterways with the community groups in our area.

In January, the first annual Resolution Runz provided runners with the opportunity to race through the breathtaking landscapes of Cottenham Trail and the Long Creek and Ridgewood Park neighborhoods. Participants walked or ran the one, three or ten mile courses and proceeds benefited the Richmond Hill High School JROTC.

Earlier in the season, we were pleased to host a canoe trip for the Interact Club of Richmond Hill High School, an annual event sponsored by the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill to reward students for their hard work and service throughout the year. With miles of winding lagoons and canals perfect for canoeing, WaterWays was an ideal venue for their annual canoe trip.

Just recently, Richmond Hill Boy Scout Troop 400 camped out at Cottenham Plantation. The troop is sponsored by the Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church, and is part of the Liberty District, Coastal Empire Council. The boys honed their camping skills by pitching tents, hiking, identifying wildlife and exploring the diverse native habitat of WaterWays.

We greatly value our relationship with the Richmond Hill community, and we are proud to have the opportunity to help make our town the best place to live in all of coastal Georgia. By participating in and and partnering with local civic organizations WaterWays will continue to demonstrate its commitment to and care for this special place we get to call home.
