Matthew Freeman Memorial Run was a Success!** [![](https://blog.livewaterways.com/hs-fs/file-3989776631-jpg/blog-files/matthewfreemanrunlogo-300x287.jpg?width=300&height=286&name=matthewfreemanrunlogo-300x287.jpg "matthewfreemanrunlogo")](https://blog.livewaterways.com/hs-fs/file-3989776631-jpg/blog-files/matthewfreemanrunlogo-300x287.jpg)On Saturday, November 16th we teamed up with The Matthew Freeman Project and [Georgia Game Changers Running Company](https://www.facebook.com/GGCRC?fref=ts) to host a multi-race event that would encourage South Bryan residents to commit to and enjoy a healthier lifestyle while simultaneously supporting The Matthew Freeman Project and its effort to promote peace. The Captain Matthew Freeman Memorial Run was an event that featured three-mile, and six-mile runs throughout the community as well as a ¼ mile fun run for kids and seniors! Nearly 235 people participated in the races, and all proceeds went to benefit [The Matthew Freeman Project and the Sibling Scholarship Program.](http://www.freemanproject.org/scholarship) Our association with Georgia Game Changers has created a unique opportunity for us to become involved in events that benefit the local community and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle—and we are honored and extremely grateful to have this opportunity to show our dedication to the greater Richmond Hill community. As part of the WaterWays team, we really enjoyed seeing our residents participate as both runners and volunteers! We had a total of 7 resident runners -- Keith and Renee Grotheer, Rosemarie Sutton, Millie Knight, Marla Szczepaniec, Liz Strickland and Caroline Cameron. Marla Szczepaniec won an award in her age division and Caroline Cameron was our youngest resident participant and won her age division! We were also honored to have our oldest runner at the race, #203 who is 80 years young. But the most heartwarming participant of them all was a wounded warrior accompanied by his troop of soldiers and his therapy dog Amo who conquered the 5k race. In addition to being with loved ones, Thanksgiving is also the perfect time to be grateful for your blessings and find ways to give back and help others in your community. Here are a few ways you can give back to the Richmond Hill community this Thanksgiving: - **Support our troops:** The Wounded Warrior Project is a national organization that provides aid to thousands of injured veterans each year. Their mission is to offer assistance in everything from post-war family counseling to financial empowerment. Each year, they partner with Richmond Hill and Savannah to bring aid to our local vets. Whether you're donating canned goods or actually putting on the hair net, volunteering at a food bank is an easy and economical way to serve others. Drop by the Center with a gingerbread house kit or supplies to help spread some holiday cheer! Better yet, stay a while for a visit! Nothing warms the heart more than knowing that someone is thinking of you! - **Invite a neighbor to dinner –** Know of someone who cannot be with their family this season? Invite them over to enjoy the holiday with yours! It's the easiest way to give back – and you can do it from your own home!
