Best Way to Celebrate Father's Day in the Lowcountry

June 13, 2012 by Callie Wamsley

One day each year we honor "World's Greatest Dad". Remember the late night heart-to-hearts and the car pools to soccer practices? Find the perfect gift to let dad know how much you appreciate him. No matter what kind of things your dad loves to do, there is something happening around Richmond Hill and the Savannah area that is sure to put a smile on his face.

  • Cannon Firings at Old Fort Jackson: Climb the ramparts of Fort Jackson or watch a cannon firing demonstration. Located along the Savannah River, the site is home to the oldest standing fort in Georgia. Historic interpreters will be on hand to share Fort Jackson's rich history.
  • Father's Day Brunch/Dinner Cruise: Let the River Street Riverboat help you plan the perfect brunch or dinner. This two hour cruise includes a buffet and live entertainment.
  • Jukebox Journey: Take dad for a night out on the town to the Savannah Theatre to watch the Jukebox Journey, where he can enjoy a great comedy show and hear his favorite jukebox hits.

If you're looking to stay close to home, there are plenty of things for dad to enjoy in our community.

  • Bill Dance Fishing Experience: Buy your dad a new fishing pole and spend the day with him at the Bill Dance Signature Lake. Fire up dad's competitive side and see who can reel in the biggest catch! We promise neither one of you will be disappointed.
  • Barbeque at WaterClub West:  Test out dad's new grill set with a back yard barbeque at WaterClub West. Just a short walk from the Long Creek, RidgeWood Park and WaterWays Parkway neighborhoods, WaterClub West is the perfect spot to grill and relax by the pool with dad.
  •  Biking Adventures: Appeal to Dad's sense of exploration and adventure and take a back country bike tour underneath the ancient oak hammocks or kayak through miles of winding lagoons! Our multi-purpose trail system is perfect for bikers and pedestrians alike while the lagoons are fun for kayakers at any level of experience. Fun outdoor activities, exploring both the trail system and the lagoons is sure to be something the entire family can enjoy. And, don't forget your camera as overlook points along the trail and lagoon system are picture perfect!

However you choose to spend Father's Day, make it a day that Dad will never forget.
