Whether it's adding more rooms, or making the most of a current living space, the American home is changing rapidly. A blog post recently published by Southeast Discovery lists a few of the reasons why these trends have taken place:
- Boomerang generation – The recently coined "boomerang generation" is a growing number of 20-to-30-year-olds who have returned home to live with their parents. These adults either cannot afford a home purchase, or are on the brink of purchasing one, using their time at home to save.
- Home work – With new technologies excelling, many companies are providing employees with the option to work from home. This, in turn, empowers homeowners the opportunity to transform the recently popular "bonus rooms" into home offices or workspaces.
- Baby boomers – According to the Pew Research Center, more than 10,000 baby boomers are turning 65 every day, with an anticipated increase in 18 percent of the population by 2030. This is one of the biggest trends that we'll see in the years to come, creating a rapid growth in aging adults moving in their children's homes.
- Cost of living – With the cost of living on the rise, many homeowners have made the decision to downsize – creating a home that makes the most of a smaller living space, even with additional family members moving in.
